LENS, or Low Energy Neurofeedback System, is neurofeedback, a specific neurotherapy method.
The aim of the LENS is to modulate the frequencies of the brain’s electrical activity and to interrupt its dysfunctional patterns
As a result, your patients obtain a significant improvement in their ability to self-regulate. This enables an easier and faster integration of the therapeutic process.
This means that it does not have a declared, specific purpose of serving for diagnosis, treatment or relief of any medical or psychological condition .
LENS Neurofeedback strengthens your patients’ capacity to self-regulate and this can mean a change in the way they react to the symptoms of the illness.
LENS Neurofeedback is not intended to be a replacement or substitute for any form of conventional medical treatment.
The effects of the LENS on your patient are quite specific to each person.
LENS feedback is totally painless and imperceptible.
Immediately after the feedback, your patient tends to feel more relaxed and sleepy.
From that moment on, your patient’s nervous system will start reorganizing itself, seeking a new balance.
Over the next 24/48 hours patients tend to notice internal changes depending on the problem that brought them to your practice: more mental clarity, more relaxation, deeper and more restful sleep, more emotional stability, more energy and zest.
Thus, the LENS will act as an excellent ally of your therapeutic goals. In 75% of patients, the changes will begin to be apparent before the third session.
As a general rule, patients with a functional past, with non-congenital and sudden onset problems, require few sessions (between 6 and 10).
By contrast, some patients with low sensitivity to feedback and with a long history of multiple problems could need up to 40 sessions.
In just a few circumstances such as spinal cord injuries, very serious head trauma and physiological impairments of genetic origin, the number of sessions can easily amount to hundreds in order to maintain a constant improvement in functions.
LENS Neurofeedback can evoke some past symptoms in the patient that have not been fully overcome.
The LENS professional knows how to graduate the intensity of LENS feedback to facilitate the integration of said symptoms, avoiding unnecessary discomfort for patients.
LENS Neurofeedback is 100% safe. In over 25 years, LENS has not hurt or injured any patients.
However, LENS can evoke the reappearance of past symptoms in the patient which have not been fully resolved, to later integrate and overcome them.
As a legal precaution more than a medical one, we advise not treating pregnant women. Likewise, given that LENS appears to cause a momentary vasodilatation, it is not advised for patients with very low blood pressure.
The changes are lasting and stable once the process has ended.
A small percentage of patients needs periodic reminder sessions.
LENS Neurofeedback is exclusively used by health professionals in a therapeutic setting.
Each country regulates in its own way which the different health professions are.
LENS professionals must hold a health professional license that is valid in their region.
LENS Neurofeedback is the ideal ally for combining with any therapeutic techniques that you use, because it takes up very little time in the session and because it facilitates and enhances the results of any therapy, such as neurofeedback, electrical stimulation of the brain, behavioral therapy, EMDR, neurorehabilitation and physical therapy, etc.
Traditional neurofeedback requires conscious awareness of the stimuli in sessions lasting between 45 and 60 minutes. Results are normally achieved over 40 or more sessions.
LENS does not require any sustained care, and the patient does not need to do anything specific during the session.
The session lasts between a few seconds and a few minutes, and the changes are often apparent from the first session.
This means that LENS Neurofeedback is an excellent option for all patients, including people who can’t sit still for long periods of time and/or cannot understand the instructions.
Unlike pEMF systems, LENS feedback is not in the form of pulses, but travels in a continuous carrier wave. The intensity and duration of the wave is so small that many consider it non-existent. By contrast, the intensities and durations of pEMF sessions are much greater.
LENS Neurofeedback in addition is a resonant system, as it makes the feedback match your patients’ physiology. None of the pEMF devices do it in the same way as LENS. The power of LENS is based on this resonance and its unique brain mapping system.
In the Directory section of the upper menu, there is a directory of professionals who have already incorporated LENS into their practices. This list is constantly growing, as more and more professionals incorporate it.

The effects of LENS Neurofeedback on the Central Nervous System are wide-ranging. Many patients of LENS professionals see improvements in their cognitive functions such as their capacity to concentrate, sustained attention, mental clarity, ability to learn, memory, reading, comprehension, organizational and planning ability, taking action, ability to change, etc.
LENS Neurofeedback enhances your patient’s ability to self-regulate. It has been observed that after the initial sessions of LENS (from zero to five), symptoms of anxiety start to decrease dramatically.
Many therapists around the world use LENS Neurofeedback as an adjuvant therapy in their therapeutic arsenal for autism spectrum disorders: diet, detoxification, supplementation, hyperbaric chamber, speech therapy, hippotherapy, Tomatis, and sensory therapy, etc. Many testimonials speak about how LENS is a facilitator of all these tools.
Following a stroke or head trauma, causing brain damage, brain functions are seriously affected. When patients receive LENS, the reactivity of the brain decreases and this fact makes possible the brain’s own ability to recover (neuroplasticity), appearing in the form of a reduction in the after-effects: improvement of cognitive function, better emotional control, reduced spasticity in limbs, etc.
LENS Neurofeedback enhances your patients’ ability to self-regulate through the elimination of old maladaptive or dysfunctional patterns. Patients with short-term depression, a recent bereavement or mild post-traumatic stress require few sessions to gain a new balance and see improvements in the symptoms that accompany their condition. For more complex patients, you will need to apply good therapeutic work, enhanced with more LENS sessions.
LENS Neurofeedback changes the way in which the Central Nervous System reacts to pain and illness. Many patients have felt great improvements in just one single LENS session.
Both paradigms, LENS and EMDR, share a neurobiological basis and are based on the idea of the human being’s intrinsic ability to recover and on there being no need for direct intervention by the therapist.
The interactions of the LENS in an EMDR process are many
– generating confidence in abilities to self-regulate
– facilitating the deployment of resources
– encouraging the integration of the material processed during the session
– reducing the time devoted to working on defenses
In general, all EMDR processes are faster and easier thanks to the LENS.
LENS Neurofeedback seems to be able to slow down the progression of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis. LENS temporarily improves the patient’s quality of life. Due to the chronic and degenerative nature of the illness, it is necessary to maintain continuity in the treatment to sustain improvements. However, after 3 to 5 years, the illness tends to run its course.
From the LENS Neurofeedback paradigm, epilepsy is considered to be a reactive activity or response of the brain. LENS reduces the reactivity of the Nervous System because it raises the reactivity threshold. This helps a reduction in the intensity and frequency of epileptic seizures.
Anger, irritability and borderline behavior tend to decrease as LENS encourages a rebalancing of the Central Nervous System and increases the reactivity threshold. Many patients experience changes from the very first session of LENS.
Pain and fatigue are managed from the Central Nervous System. LENS Neurofeedback encourages a new balance and enables the brain to manage the input reaching it from the periphery system differently.
Insomnia is a condition that is very sensitive to a number of physical and psychological factors. Given that LENS Neurofeedback affects the way in which the brain reacts to these factors, it is very common for patients with problems of insomnia to notice improvements in their sleep patterns from the first sessions with LENS
LENS is compatible with all therapeutic techniques because it enhances their effects, facilitates the process and takes up very little time in the session. Traditional neurofeedback is an example of this: LENS is an excellent catalyst. In addition, they share a lot as LENS is a neurofeedback system and uses very similar components. Many neurofeedback therapists use LENS before beginning each neurofeedback session with their patients.
LENS is safe in all types of patients, from the elderly and adults to teenagers and children.
Many children suffer from insomnia, phobias, night terrors, nightmares, intrusive thoughts, etc., that the therapist cannot address directly in a dialogue-based therapy. LENS Neurofeedback improves self-regulation by your patient, allowing you to progress more quickly and with greater ease in your therapy.
Obsessive compulsive disorder is a very resistant anxiety disorder. The application of repeated sessions of LENS as an adjuvant to painstaking therapeutic work have led in many cases to relieving rituals, repetitions, obsessions and fears, etc.
LENS Neurofeedback is ideal for reverting conditions acquired abruptly or suddenly. The after-effects of short-duration physical and/or emotional trauma revert quickly with LENS. Trauma of long duration will always require a greater number of sessions and good therapeutic work.
